Located in northeast Kansas, Hiawatha was incorporated in 1857 and became the county seat of Brown County the following year. The area was already connected to the movement of people westward, with routes such as the Oregon and California Trails passing through the region as pioneers made their way toward new opportunities in the West. Hiawatha’s name has an especially interesting story: local founders chose it after the title character in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s popular poem, “The Song of Hiawatha.” The town continued to grow as Brown County developed, eventually becoming an important center for commerce, government, and agriculture in the region.
Today, Hiawatha beautifully blends its history with the warmth of a close-knit modern community. The historic courthouse square, lined with distinctive buildings and brick-paved streets, reflects the town’s growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, while landmarks such as the historic Clock Tower and the Davis Memorial give Hiawatha a character all its own. Hiawatha is also known for its beautiful maple-lined streets and its strong connection to the surrounding agricultural community. We’re proud to serve the families of Hiawatha and the surrounding area. For us, orthodontic care is about more than creating healthy, beautiful smiles—it’s about getting to know our patients, supporting local families, and helping children, teens, and adults feel confident in who they are. We’re honored to be part of a community with such a unique history and to help Hiawatha’s next generation smile with confidence.
