Invisalign and Invisalign Teen

Dr. Lauren Windhorst of Choice Orthodontics stands behind Invisalign® completely because the first person she treated with Invisalign was herself!

When Dr. Windhorst was a kid, she had braces. However, after experiencing some minor relapses as an adult, she endeavored to fix her smile once more. Instead of returning to traditional braces, she decided to try Invisalign so she could test the results firsthand.

“I figured if I was completely compliant with the product, followed all directions and it didn’t work, then it wouldn’t work on my patients,” said Dr. Windhorst.

True to her commitment, she went on to wear Invisalign aligners for approximately one year. At the culmination of her orthodontic treatment, she saw incredible results. She is now a firm believer that Invisalign can straighten teeth and align the bite successfully as long as the patient is compliant with all instructions.

About Invisalign

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign straightens your teeth without the use of wires and brackets. Invisalign is a system that relies on a series of clear, customized appliances called aligners. These aligners come with many benefits that braces do not, like increased cosmetic appeal, comfort, and flexibility.

Clearly Different

Since Invisalign aligners are made of a clear, soft plastic, they are virtually undetectable. Hardly anyone will notice them, which means you can undergo orthodontic treatment and work toward a straighter smile while still feeling confident about the one you have now.

A More Comfortable Lifestyle

Without metal brackets and wires, your orthodontic treatment experience can be a very comfortable one, thanks to Invisalign. Add to that, an extra benefit of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable. Therefore:

  • You are not limited by the dietary restrictions of braces.
  • Maintaining a good oral hygiene routine is easy as ever.
  • You even have the option to remove your aligners for special occasions.

The Invisalign Process

To see if Invisalign treatment at Choice Orthodontics’ St. Joseph and Gallatin, MO practice can help you achieve the smile you've always wanted, learn more about the process today:

How it Works

The Invisalign system combines advanced 3-D computer graphic technology with the 100-year-old science of orthodontics to create customized aligners. Designed to gradually move your teeth into the final position prescribed by your orthodontist, these aligners are precisely calibrated to fit your mouth at each stage of treatment. Thus, your teeth are comfortable as they are guided into their new positions.

Consulting With Your Orthodontist

To ensure the best possible results, only an orthodontist who has been trained and certified by Align Technology can diagnose and treat you with Invisalign.

Please note, Invisalign is not intended for children and is not appropriate for every adult. Only your orthodontist can determine if this treatment is an effective option for you. So, book your appointment with Dr. Windhorst – your Gallatin and St. Joseph, MO hometown orthodontist – today, and take the first step toward straightening your smile.

Step By Step

  • If your Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas orthodontist has determined Invisalign is right for you, she will send precise treatment instructions to Invisalign’s advanced computer technologies, which will translate her instructions into a sequence of finely calibrated aligners.
  • Each of the aligners you receive (as few as 10 or as many as 50) will be worn for about two weeks and only be removed regularly for eating, brushing and flossing.
  • As you replace each Invisalign aligner with the next one in the series, your teeth will move gradually until the desired final alignment is attained. Then you'll be smiling like never before!

About Invisalign Teen

You shouldn’t have to be an adult to enjoy the teeth-straightening benefits of Invisalign. With Invisalign® Teen, you too can achieve a more beautiful, confident smile without having to crowd your mouth with metal wires and brackets. Using Invisalign Teen’s clear aligners (whether you’re from Saint Joseph, Gallatin, Cameron, Savannah, or another one of our surrounding Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas communities) your teenage memories can be captured with confidence.

The Perks of Invisalign Teen

  • Invisalign Teen aligners are removable and virtually invisible, which means you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing.
  • You can still eat and drink what you want – no restrictions like with braces.
  • For select special occasions you can take the aligners out.
  • There are no wires, metal, or brackets to cause mouth abrasions.
  • You can brush and floss normally without interference.

Everything You Need To Know

Invisalign Teen is a clear, more comfortable and cosmetically appealing way to straighten teeth. Instead of relying on metal brackets and wires like braces, this teeth-straightening system utilizes a series of clear, removable aligners that have been custom-made for your smile.

The Main Facts

  • You will wear each set of aligners for 2-3 weeks.
  • For best results, only remove aligners to eat, drink, brush and floss.
  • Your teeth will move gradually each week.
  • You’ll need to visit our Gallatin or Saint Joseph, MO office every 8-10 weeks.
  • The total treatment time will average between 6-24 months.
  • And the average number of Invisalign Teen aligners you’ll use will be 10-50.

What Conditions Does Invisalign Teen Treat?

With its advanced technology, Invisalign Teen can treat a broad range of dental and orthodontic conditions, which, in the past, could only be treated with traditional braces. These conditions include:

  • Overly crowded teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite

Key Differences Between Invisalign & Invisalign Teen

In order to make sure patients received the best orthodontic treatment experience possible, Invisalign went to leading orthodontists, parents, and teens themselves to custom-design an Invisalign system that is just right for the dental needs of teenagers. Thus, Invisalign Teen was created and unlike Invisalign, it includes:

  • A Blue Dot Wear Indicator to show how long each aligner has been worn
  • Six free replacement aligners in case some are lost or broken
  • Other changes designed to accommodate growing mouths

Invisalign FAQ

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are a comfortable, clear solution to traditional braces that can make undergoing orthodontic treatment a much easier experience. To learn more about both types of Invisalign, see below for our thorough Invisalign FAQ section.

How often do I wear my Invisalign aligners?

You must wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day. You may remove them for eating, drinking, and regular oral hygiene.

Are there any restrictions to what I can eat while undergoing treatment?

No. Unlike with braces, you may eat whatever you like as long as you remove the aligners before eating. Note – prior to replacing aligners after meals, it is important that you brush your teeth and aligners.

Will wearing Invisalign aligners affect my speech?

Like with any kind of orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period. But, the more you speak with your aligners on, the quicker you will adjust.

Is there any discomfort associated with Invisalign treatment?

There will be some pressure and minor discomfort for a day or two after each initial insertion of a new set of aligners. However, this is just a sign that your teeth are moving toward their final position.

Can I chew gum while wearing Invisalign?

Dr. Windhorst recommends that you remove your aligners prior to chewing gum, as the gum will stick to the aligners.

Can I smoke while wearing Invisalign aligners?

We discourage smoking with aligners because the smoke will discolor them.

How do I keep my aligners clean?

Brush them with toothpaste and a toothbrush.

How often do I see my orthodontist while I am undergoing Invisalign treatment?

Regular visits to our Saint Joseph or Gallatin, MO office are required every 6-8 weeks. These visits allow Dr. Windhorst to ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

What happens after my treatment is complete? Do I need to wear retainers?

All orthodontic patients (no matter what type of treatment they’ve undergone) are instructed to wear retainers at night. Sleeping with your retainers will ensure a healthy bite, and maintain the new position of your teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign treatment time varies depending on the original position of your teeth. It could take anywhere from 6-18 months. Treatment time with Invisalign could possibly be shorter than treatment time with traditional braces.
